At Wars of the Roses Con (WotRCon), we are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all attendees, staff, speakers, vendors, and participants. This Code of Conduct outlines expected behaviors, unacceptable conduct, and the steps to take if you witness or experience inappropriate behavior.
Expected Behavior
All attendees, staff, and participants are expected to:
- Respect Others: Treat everyone with dignity and respect, regardless of their age, race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or any other personal characteristic.
- Follow Event Guidelines: Abide by all event rules, including those set forth by WotRCon staff, the venue, and local laws.
- Practice Inclusivity: Strive to create a welcoming atmosphere for all participants, encouraging open-mindedness and constructive dialogue.
- Handle Conflicts Gracefully: If a disagreement arises, engage respectfully or seek assistance from event staff to mediate.
- Protect the Venue: Treat the venue and all property with care. Dispose of trash responsibly and report any accidental damage to staff immediately.
Unacceptable Behavior
The following behaviors are considered unacceptable at WotRCon:
- Harassment: Any form of verbal, physical, or sexual harassment, including but not limited to:
- Unwelcome advances or attention.
- Use of derogatory or offensive language, slurs, or jokes.
- Displaying or sharing inappropriate, explicit, or offensive materials.
- Discrimination: Excluding or mistreating others based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics.
- Disruptive Behavior: This includes excessive noise, interrupting speakers, or other actions that disrupt sessions, panels, or activities.
- Violence or Threats: Any form of violence, including physical altercations, threats, or intimidation.
- Theft or Vandalism: Stealing or damaging property belonging to attendees, vendors, staff, or the venue.
- Unauthorized Recordings: Recording lectures, panels, or other activities without prior consent from WotRCon organizers or participants.
Reporting Violations
If you witness or experience a violation of this Code of Conduct, please take the following steps:
- Report to Staff: Contact a WotRCon staff member or volunteer. Staff will be identifiable by a staff badge.
- You can also report via email at ashia@wotrcon.org.
- Provide Details: Share as much information as you feel comfortable, including the names of involved individuals, what happened, and where and when the incident occurred.
- Confidentiality: All reports will be handled with discretion and confidentiality to the greatest extent possible.
Consequences of Violations
WotRCon reserves the right to take the following actions in response to violations of the Code of Conduct:
- Warnings: Issuing verbal or written warnings to the offending party.
- Removal: Expelling the offending party from the event without a refund.
- Ban: Barring the offending party from attending future WotRCon events.
- Legal Action: Reporting the incident to local authorities when necessary.
